About Hainan

Located in the tropical area at the southern end of China, this place is warm all year round and has no winter. Besides, it boasts soft beaches and beautiful tropical scenery, which make it a famous holiday resort in China. Its administrative regions are Hainan Island, Xisha archipelago, Zhongsha archipelago and Nansha archipelago. The whole province occupies a land area of 35,000 square kilometers (13,510 square miles) and a sea area of 2,000,000 square kilometers (772,000 square miles). The main island, Hainan Island, which is shaped like a giant elliptical pear, is China's largest island after Taiwan. The capital Haikou City is situated in northern part of the island. It is the political, economic, cultural and transportation center of the whole province. The other prefecture-level city of the province is Sanya, which is a hot destination for tourism.

 

Hainan Visa-Free Policy

Hainan has special policy for citizens of 26 countries including Australia, Austria, Britain, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Thailand, Ukraine, United States. Citizens can enter visa-free and stay for 15 days if they are part of a tour group arranged by a Hainan-based, government-approved tourist agency. For detailed information of application and policy, please consult with the Chinese Embassy or Consulate in your place of residence, or one of the local licensed travel agencies.

 

Transfer from the Airport to Hotels

Haikou Meilan Airport, 25 kilometers (16 miles) away from the city center, provides a convenient connection with other cities at home and abroad. It has more than 200 air lines flying between major cities inside China such as Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Guangzhou, Shijiazhuang, Wuhan, Dalian, Xiamen, Xian, Chengdu, Harbin, Qingdao and Nanjing, etc., as well as direct flights to Hong Kong, Bangkok, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and so forth. But the most convenient way is to take a taxi at the taxi stand at cost around 100 Chinese yuan.

 

By Taxi

The total cost is around 100 Chinese yuan, including the expressway toll fee. The total time is around 60 minutes. If encountering a heavy traffic, the cost may be higher. Also the time spent may be longer.

 

Transportation in Haikou

 

Bus

The city is the highway hub of the Hainan Island. National highways at the east, middle line and west as well as the expressway circle the island and are of great convenience to transport. read more

 

Ship

The city has New Port (Xin Gang) and Xiuying Port. Every day there are 40 or so boats heading for coastal cities and Hong Kong. New Port mainly engages in passenger and car boats between Zhanjiang Port and Hai'an Port. Xiuying Port operates ships to Guangzhou, Zhanjiang, Hai'an, Shekou, Beihai and Hong Kong.

 

Taxi

Taxis in Haikou have several colors. All of them show a taximeter inside. You can easily find them in every part of Haikou. All Taxis will charge 2.1 yuan per kilometer with a base of RMB10 yuan within 3 kilometers.

 

Weather

Hainan has a tropical monsoon climate. Its average annual temperature is 22-26°C (71-79°F) and the temperature is coldest in January and February when it averages around 16-21°C (61-70°F). Because of the 1750-2650 hours of sunshine it receives every year, Hainan can reap three harvests of rice and is an ideal place for growing out-of-season vegetables and breeding fine-strain seeds.

 

Insurance

The registration fee does not include insurance for the participants regarding accidents, sickness or loss of personal property. It is advisable to make your own arrangements in respect of health and travel insurance before leaving your countries.

 

Currency Exchange

In China, only RMB is used. However, exchange centers can be found at most hotels and large shopping centers. The exchange rate is due to the official rate (Bank of China). When exchanging money, please keep your receipt by which you can change any remaining RMB back to foreign currency when leaving China. Visa, Master, American Express are accepted in many department stores and hotels. ATM could help you for changing RMB from your credit card.

 

Reconfirmation of Air Ticket

Departure air ticket (both international and domestic) should be reconfirmed 72 hours in advance. Calling the airline office in Beijing could make it. But these offices do not work in weekend.
