SNIC (Singapore) (http://www.snic.org.sg) was among the eleven founding members of FACS in 1978/9. We are naturally pleased and proud that our "baby" has grown healthily over the past 25 years. It is a reflection of not only the nutrients and nurture provided by member societies like SNIC, but, very importantly, also the inner desire of this baby to progress, succeed and excel. Today, FACS is tirelessly promoting a range of activities like ACC, projects like ACEN, and the awards. These activities are building synergistic effects with our national activities. As Singapore moves further into a knowledge-based economy, we are vigorously developing a range of high value-adding industries such as biomedical, including pharmaceutical, electronic and specialty chemicals, all of which are centrally supported by chemistry and chemists. The evolution of our national science body A*STAR (http://www.a-star.edu.sg) also brought along a number of highly dynamic research institutes such as ICES, IBN, IMRE etc , which are closely connected to the pillar domains of chemistry. The changes in our scientific, technological and economic landscape have provided a springboard for SNIC to move into a new era in which we shall put further emphasis on the development of our quality of life through talent enrichment and knowledge enhancement. As we push the frontier of chemistry and exert the impact of chemistry, we consider FACS a key partner. In fact, it is satisfying to witness the growth of FACS from a fragile baby, to become a wise, caring and resourceful mentor of SNIC.
We therefore are most happy to share your joy and expect more of such celebrations in the years to come.
